Recruiters – The 2013 JUEL Recruiting Guide is now available

JUEL, Canada’s only Provincial basketball league, enters its third season of play. The 18 member franchises have selected their rosters, and since the end of the Ontario High School girls’ basketball season have been working out with anticipation of the first weekend of play.  The most exciting off season development for JUEL is the continued transition towards Regionalization.  In the inaugural season most teams were awarded franchise status for 2 years which ended at the conclusion of the 2012 season.  The application process was opened to any and all clubs in the Province; ultimately 18 teams received status from 1-3 years.   New to JUEL for the 2013 season are GTA West (regional team – Mississauga Monarch, Caledon Cougars, Etobicoke Storm & Oakville Vytis), Hamilton Fox Trotters and St. Clair.

The 2013 season will include more stops throughout the Province allowing for more direct exposure to Coaches from the next level.  This year JUEL will host weekends in the following cities: Ancaster, Barrie, Brampton, Cambridge, Chatham, Kingston, Mississauga, Ottawa, Waterloo, and Windsor.

The 2013 League Tournament was opened to applications for bidding.  JUEL received some exceptional bids to host the tournament ultimately deciding on London.  The bid was submitted by Tourism London in partnership with Western University Canada, Fanshawe College and London Ramblers.  The commitment is for 1 year with the application process being opened again for the 2014 League Tournament.  JUEL is very excited and looking forward to showcasing the best talent in the Province in London.  The League Tournament is scheduled for May 10-12, 2013 which is 1 week after the Juvenile/Junior Ontario Cup.

There were specific Universities and Colleges who worked hard to host a JUEL weekend, this is positive for both the schools and JUEL and a relationship of great value, the institutions include:

  • Fanshawe College – London, Queens University – Kingston, University of Western Ontario – London, University of Windsor – Windsor and Redeemer University - Ancaster.

Teams will play 4 exhibition games and 17 regular season games for a total of 21 games.  In a continued effort to prepare our players for the next level, JUEL will continue to play 40 minutes games (4-10 minute quarters).  This will put an importance on game preparation, conditioning and deeper benches.
The “All-Star Game” will keep the same format used in 2012, 24 players will be selected (12 underclassmen, 12 seniors).  The game is scheduled for Saturday May 25, 2013, host bids are still being evaluated with an announcement to be made by the end of January 2013.
The 2013 season will include a more active Twitter account so all Players, Coaches, Families and Friends can get up-to-date information and scores online. .  All other information including the complete schedule, rosters, and league information can be found on the JUEL website at www.juel.ca.

Colleges and Universities looking for players should visit our “Current Seniors” page.  This page contains all of the 2013 Seniors who are still looking for a school and the players already committed to a school.

JUEL has designated March 1-3, 2013 (Week #4) as the Support Breast Cancer Research League Weekend.  Teams can purchase Pink Warm-up t-shirts to wear for the weekend in support of this great cause.  All of the Pink t-shirts will be screened with the JUEL front logo and individual players numbers (8") tackle twilled in one colour on the back.  Cost for each t-shirt is $15.00 (HST included) with portions of the profits going to the Princess Margaret Hospital Cancer Research.  The t-shirts will also be available at all 3 sites (St. Martin – Mississauga, St. Augustine – Brampton and University of Windsor) for family, friends and guest to purchase at the same price.  Orders must be placed by February 3, 2013.   Contact Fergy Neves for more information.
